Homework Help

Several students had a question about their math homework that is due tomorrow. For the month of October, we worked in Base Four. A unit in base four is worth 1. A strip in base four is worth 4. And, a mat is worth 16 in base four. Think of it like place value- ones, tens, and hundreds in base ten.

For example, the number 321 base four, would be 1 unit + 2 strips + 3 mats (looking at place value). Or, 1 + 8 + 48. (2 strips x 4 units=8 and 3 mats x 16 units=48)

1+8+48= 57 total

Does that make sense? We hope so!!!! Just remember this helpful hint: UNITS=1, STRIPS=4, MATS=16, MATMAT=64
